Hello. Last night my norton anti virus scan screen wouldn't close down so I stupidly shut down my computer. The computer got stuck at the "logging off" screen. I have left it ther for literally hours and nothing has happened. I trried turning it off manually which works but when I turn it back on I get the screen saying "resuming windows" then it returns to the "logging off" screen. The laptop is a Dell studio 17 and is running windows vista home premium. Please, please, please help me and make it nice and easy lol.

when you turn it on try tapping F8 as it boots up - you should then see a menu appear on the screen choose safemode
see if that starts ok

Thanks for your reply. I saw something about this when I googled the problem but unfortunately nothing happened.

I assume it ignores you and comes up with a screen resuming windows again = correct

have you removed the battery ?

Thats correct.When I switch it on I get 1:the dell boot up screen, 2:resuming windows screen, 3:evil logging off screen. I have tried removing the battery once I have manually switched it off.

Ps yes, the F8 command is totally ignored. I have tried pressing it at each stage of boot up.

do you have the recovery CDs for the machine ?

It's fixed. Took the battery out while it was on the shut down screen rather than after I'd manually turned it off. Booted back up no probs. Thanks for the help and advice anyway.
