IE will not connect -
When I open Internet explorer, the page comes up and it indicates its connecting.... after much time a window comes up and says " Your last browsing session closed unexpectedly" and gives me 2 options, 1 - "Restore your last session" and 2 - "go to your home Page" I click on either one and it indicates its connecting, but never does, I cannot closed IE via normal X at top right, the only way I can close IE is to open Task manager, and end Task. after 4 or 5 attempts at ending IE this way, it will close. I have tried to download IE 8 and have done so, but the same situation occurs. I am running Vista Home OS, a laptop Acer Aspire - CPU AMD Athlion 64 TF-20 - 2GB Memory - 160 GB HD - 8X DVD/cd - I run AOL normally but on occasion i use IE as my base. AOL is running on IE and working OK -- I have a number of programs that automatically use IE to access their sites, Carbolite BU working fine -- AVG Internet security, working and updating daily all OK. but I cannot. Any help would be appreciated. I cannot find any answers in your forums or FAQ areas. Thank you -- Don (Drtire)

IE says "Your last browsing session closed unexpectedly" because you used Task Manager to forcibly close it. So you are now using IE8. When it doesn't connect to web sites, does it offer you the choice of "Diagnosing connection problems" ?

Try resetting all IE8 configurations. Go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced Tab/Reset Button. Beware, this will erase all your settings in IE8 and start afresh. It may even erase your saved passwords for web sites, if you ever did use that feature.

Thank you for the quick response, but I am still in a quandry on how to fix this doggone program.

It does not offer me the choice of "Diagnosing Connection Problems" I also cannot access the reset button. My choices in the tools menu are 1. "compatibility view settings", and 2. "suggested sites", they are highlighted, and alll the rest of the choices are subdued, and even when I click on 1 or 2, nothing happens, except on 1, it comes up with a window with nothing on it. Any more Ideas?

thanks again,
don

Do you have any IE add on's or plugins ? Try uninstalling them one by one. Maybe it is a plugin that is causing problems.

Hi,
Try starting your computer in sarfe mode. While computer is booting, gently continously tap the F8 button. when the safe mode window opens use the arrow keys to move up to last works, I suggest you immediately update and run your antivirus program, and anti malware/spyware problems. If you need recommendations post back and one of us will help you.
