Network adapter and no audio out put installed
A couple weeks ago I went on my computer and saw that there where no longer any audio drivers installed. Last week I went on and it says that there are no network adapters installed. Now I cant go on the internet and have no sound. My computer is a Compaq Presario.

What's the model number of that Compaq Presario? If you don't know for sure, advise what the product number on the sticker is.

Is it a desktop or a laptop?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Go into Control Panel - Device Manager, then click the + in

Network Adapters

Sound Video And Game Controllers

What's listed in those headings?

If there's also a heading named Other Devices or Unknown Devices, advise what's listed there too.

Here is the support and software site for that desktop. You should add and save this site to your browser favorites/bookmarks list so you can refer to it when needed.

You haven't provided the Device Manager information that I requested. I'm wanting to confirm the device identities and if there's a driver issue.

That desktop appears to have Realtek High Definition Audio and Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

under network adapters it says Microsoft ISATAP adapter. There is a yellow exclamation point on it. Under sound video and game controllers it says Realtek High definition audio. There are no unknown or other device catagories.

Double-click the Microsft ISATAP Adapter entry to open its properties window, then click Details(tab).

Look for a string that has VEN_####&DEV_#### as part of the string.

What's the 4 characters after VEN_ and DEV_ ?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Double-click the Realtek High Definition Audio entry to open its properties window, then click Driver(tab).

What's the driver version listed?

The current version for Vista(32-bit) is 6.0.1.6151. Here is a download link(click the green icon) for it.

Vista requires the file to be installed twice and should prompt you to do so. The first install and restart will remove the old driver. The second install and restart will install the new driver.

After that's done, go into Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel and adjust the settings to your liking.

I double clicked on it and went to details. I cycled through every option I could and there is nothing that has VEN_####&DEV_#### . There is a DEVNode status that number is 01802401.

THE AUDIO WORKS!!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

At least we got half the problem solved so far.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Go here to download and save the sp35046.exe file for the Realtek RTL8101E network adapter that's supposedly in that desktop.

Close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

If the install is successful, restart your computer afterwards, whether you're prompted to or not.

Good luck!

Go into the Device Manager and right-click on and remove the Microsft ISATAP Adapter entry, then restart your computer. Hopefully, your computer will detect and install the network adapter and then install the driver for it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

It may come down to you buying and installing a network adapter card in one of the white PCI slots to replace the network adapter that's not working.
