How many audio out ports do you have on your computer? Try another if your computer has one.

Just try to enable audio device in your PC.

Here you can go to enable the device,

1. Open the Control Panel.

2.
Click on the Sound icon.

3. Click on the Recording tab.

4. Right click on a empty area and click on Show Disabled Devices.

5. You will now see the disabled audio devices with the arrow pointing down on them.

6. Right click on each listed disabled audio device that you want to enable and click on Enable.

7. You can see then, when the audio devices are enabled.

8. Click OK to close the Sound window.

Thanks I'll try this.

For I just got my pc back from future shop and they said there was 800 or so viruses and that I need to wipe the hard drive and reinstall vista so I followed the instructions that the three recovery disces printed me to. Now I have vista reinstalled and still no sound. Oh ya and future shop said they tried my sound card with another operating system and it worked. So I'm now puzzzzzeld????

I don't care what the guys at the hardware place say, but you have almost certainly fried your sound card section. Which, by the way, is almost always on the motherboard these days and not testable in another computer.

Microphones output around 15 to 100 Millivolts, that's 15-thousandths of a volt. Headphone outputs are at a minimum of 0.5 Volts and up to 2 volts. You can do the Math.

You need an L-Pad to attenuate (lower) the headphone output to plug into a microphone input. Look here...

Is it a desktop or laptop?

In the sound part realtek digital output is green check mark and in the recording part digital in is green check mark. When I right clicked in the white space stereo mix showed up and the right hand side of it is green the EQ part. Bit still no sound

I assume it was a USB drive? If so then use restore to bring the stuff back.

What did you use to back up? It will have a restore option.
