Windows Vista Blue Screen at Startup
Hello All -

I have been searching the forum and have found similar posts but not quite the same situaution. I was installing SP1 for Vista when the update froze and crashed the computer. I am now stuck in a blue screen loop. I have have tried every available restart option all resulting in a ble screen. I have also tried inserting the Vista Install CD and running the system repair but after the process gets to the "Windows is loading files" status bar, the computer blue screens and cant make it any farther.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck and out of ideas.

Thanks!

There had to have been something wrong before you started installing the SP. What problems did the machine have before? Was there any evidence of an infection?

The machine needs to be clean of all infections and running nearly flawlessly before attempting to install an SP. Antivirus and antimalware programs and firewalls should be disabled or uninstalled.

What is the blue screen error?

Elvandil - Thanks for the quick response. There weren't really any issues before the SP. I reason that I was trying the SP was because I was having issues reading some CD's with UDF and the Microsoft suggestions was to try SP upgrade. There has been no evidence of any sort of infection at all.

The problem at this point is that I have NO way of getting back into the machine. Every option I select during bootup is met with a blue screen (STOP: 0x0000C1F5). I've tried all the normal options (Last good config/ Safe Mode/ Normal) as well as going the F8 route and trying all options including repair as well as trying to boot off the Vista CD.

I really am not sure what to do at this point...

Please check the STOP error number again.

Nothing on the hard drive can possibly affect DVD boot. What happens when you try that?

I double checked the STOP error code and it's the same. I get the same blue screen error regardless of whether I try and enter through Safe Mode or try to boot from the Vista disk. As I said before, with the Vista disk it gets past the 'loading files' screen and then blue screens with the same message.

Oh, and I forgot to mention...I have no issues with starting over from scratch as long as I can gain control of my PC again. I backed it up not too long ago so at this point my main goal is simply being able to get Windows running again...

After looking around I found this help link http://stop0x0000c1f5vistahelp.blogspot.com/ regarding my issues and am working through it right now. Apparently the issue is due to a corrupted Vista SP1 download. I'll update up the progress later...
