Windows Vista Black Screen
Hi,

I switched don my PC today and all seemed to be ok during boot up. After the loading windows green progress bar disappeared all I got was a black screen not even the cursor. I could here my computer working away as I heard it telling me my virus software has been updated.

I powered down the PC and rebooted it in safe mode, which works perfectly fine. But everytime I try and boot up normally I get the black screen

Has this happened to anybody else, does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix it.

Thanks

I am currently running Vista service pack 2 on a Packard Bell desktop

What graphics card do you have?

As a first try, remove the driver for graphics and reboot, letting Windows install its own version.

Hello,

I'm currently experiencing the same problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop.

I boot up my computer and it goes black before the windows login screen

I'm able to boot using the safe modes

I've uninstalled my graphics driver and afterwards I was able to login to windows

However, installing/updating the graphic driver then restarting repeats the problem.

I think the problem started when my screen starting flickering saying the display driver stopped responding and has recovered.

At first the screen would freeze then restart, and I kept rebooting to see if the problem persists until now when vista stopped booting and all I get is the black screen.

What is the problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
