first boot says windows version not genuine next boot says:

XMPP.dll not found for Apple update notifier

next Microsoft Office XP component has stopped working

finally Winpatrol finds a new start up programme and its the inbuilt webcam - looks like something is interfering with the boot programmes

  • Click "Continue"
  • Ensure that the "Windows" tab is selected (it should be by default).
  • Click the "Copy" button to copy the MGA Diagnostic Report to the Windows clipboard.
  • Paste the MGA Diagnostic Report back here in your next reply.

I'm sorry to say that you seem to have an invalid license of Windows Vista. Did you get that copy of Vista from eBay?

Your problem might be caused by the Software Licensing Service not running - which means that Windows cannot check the validity of your license.

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

Type services.msc

Look for the Software Licensing Service.

Make sure that the Startup Type is set to Automatic (delayed start), and then attempt to Start the service.

If the service starts, and then shuts down almost immediately, then you probably have a malware infection.

If the service refuses to start, make a note of any error messages, and post back with full details.

If the service starts, OK, reboot, and see if your error message has gone.

Its definitely not an invalid licence _ i bought it new with the laptop and I have all the disks here

tried running the services.msc using the delayed start but I get an error message saying the delayed auto-start flag could not be set - Error 87: The parameter is incorrect

struggling to get it to run services.msc in normal mode - just keeps hanging - sometimes boot asks to activate windows, others it says invalid copy - regularly get programmes (including task manager & run command line) becoming non responsive

OK, forget about Delayed Start. Leave it Started and Automatic.

If no luck,

Perhaps you can create a new key in the registry to be able to start the service in Safe Mode?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\slsvc

(Note: Software Licensing Service = slsvc)
