Laptop doesn't recognize cd/dvd drive!
Just about a month ago my laptop stopped reading/burning any cd's.
I've read and tried the various fixes found on this site, and on the microsoft site, but nothing has helped.
When running Microsoft's Fix It App, it tells me, "CD/DVD drive is not detected". The drive ejects normally.

Does anyone know what I could do to fix this or know the cause of it?
Thanks

Yes, I have tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting, but it never came back up...
I have an HP Pavilion dv6700. By service tag number are you referring to the s/n or p/n or model #, cause they're all on the service tag...?

It looks like toddlerstompers account has been disabled but I can help you.

Here is a link to find the service tag! http://support.dell.com/support/topi...sd&~mode=popup
It should be the number right after it says service tag.
Also could you post a screen shot of your device manager?
Here is a link to some screen capture software.

Here give this a shot!!!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

If you venture to the registry key above by doing the following steps:

Click on the start menu.
If this is a Vista machine in the search box type in regedit without the quotation marks.
Maximize the HKLM and then go ahead and browse until you reach the key listed above.
In the right panel you will see something along the lines of UperFilter and LowerFilter you want to click on each filter key and hit delete. Click yes when it asks to confirm if you wish to delete the key.
Restart Windows.
Let me know if this works.

Thanks so much catmilk!

I'm still confused, because I see at least three different numbers... So here's a picture of my service tag. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g/IMG_3429.jpg

Here's my device manager: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...CaptureWiz.png

I do not have a vista installation disc. I bought the laptop with everything installed.

Also, did you mean for me to save it as run.reg since the other way around doesn't save as a registry code..?
