I'm wondering how to find my files on Linux, which I installed on the F: and G: partitions of a hardrive. I'm trying to use Windows XP to send a file over to Linux, but I'm just trying to view the files at the moment. I am not talking about system files either. I can veiw the system files on the F: partition. Looking at the G: partition didn't help me at all, it was just empty and completely formatted.

I chose the Windows XP forum because I was using that OS to veiw the files.

What format are the F and G partitions?
By default windows cannot read the Linux formats such as ext2 and 3.
You could try using one of the programs suggested here:

But what format is it?
You could have a hard disk, whether blank or full of files, formatted as FAT32. Alternatively you could have one that is formatted as NTFS. Both of these are file systems Windows can read, and it can access any files stored.

However the Linux formatting systems (including ext 2 3 and 4 and others) cannot be read by Windows. Linux could see files on them, but to Windows they would appear blank. If Linux shows files and Windows doesn't, that is almost certainly the reason.

Captain Nemo is a file manager that can mount any type of file system or partition image. It gives you normal access to the files and even has a built-in viewer that can display whatever files contain.

But, it isn't free.

Individual drivers for Ext2fs and Ext3fs can be found on the net.

Go into Linux and copy the file into the XP partition. You can see all your XP folders from the Linux side.
