Exclamation After I reinstalled windows..
My question is pretty much "Now what?"

The Internet is not working and I'm not sure how to go about that. I tried going to Asus website (my motherboard) I grabbed their driver detective program and ran the program on my desktop (the computer in discussion). But in order for the program to work, it needed to install another program (which it needed Internet to do) -- this is feeling overly complicated and confusing.

So.. now what?

How do I get internet working?
How do I go about getting sound on the computer?

- This is a custom built computer (not a dell or hp or anything)
- Windows XP Home sp 3
- This was installed on a brand new hard drive

Here are some specs pulled from DXdiag:

You'll need to look at your equipment, physically. Look on the motherboard manufacturer's Web site for starters. Determine, and download the drivers for the chipset and anything else that is on-board (network, audio, video). If you install the chipset drivers first, reboot, then the network drivers (if it's not on-board, look on the card itself for identifying names, numbers, etc.). The video and audio drivers will get you a better image on the screen and sound, obviously.

Let us know if you get stuck anywhere.

Sad To Say
First off, thank you for replying.

You may need to describe this to me as if I'm 6 years old.... I'm sure what you mean by chip set. I know the motherboard is by Asus.

Don't use Driver Detective. It will make mistakes and leads to problems. That is just an ad and not supported by ASUS. (Yes, the ads are getting sneakier and sneakier and make themselves look like part of the site or the wrong download button. FYI: We do not necessarily endorse any advertised programs on this site, either.)

Find the drivers for your machine at ASUS and download those that are missing in Device Manager. Start with the chipset (or Intel Inf Utility).

What model Asus board? If you do not see the numbers clearly on the board itself, you should see it on the splash screen that comes up when you power up.

It's probably not written on the board (the computer's model), but probably on a sticker on back.

PSWD2 is the chipset.

Did that machine come with XP? If it did, Asus has the drivers.

It's actually P5WD2. Here's the page you need to download the drivers:

It is a custom built machine with no model number for the computer.
It did not come with XP, I have the disk.

Try putting your OS into the dropdown box on this page:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...03&dl=1#driver

You could try the BroadCom PCIe Gigabit lan driver. If it is the wrong one, the installer will tell you.

This looks like a similar site to the one above. I am able to put my OS in the drop down but not sure where to go from there.

I believe my OS is XP 32 bit

After you put your OS in, you should see a list of drivers. Do you not? Download the Broadcom one from one of the listed locations and install it.
