I attempted to re-install the operating system on my Gateway laptop using the disk that came with the computer. After running the full re-install I got this message when restarting: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file." Googling the problem gives all sorts of suggestions, none of which make sense or work. All I can do at this point is start with the disk. I have tried three times and get the same result with other disks also. I would appreciate any help.
