Solved: Google.com isn't loading
My boyfriend's computer had a redirecting virus on it that I'd been trying to remove for a LONG time. Well, suddenly this morning by some fluke I ran a quick scan in MalwareBytes and it fixed the search engine redirecting problem. However, now the classic google homepage won't load on it. I tried it with the Australian extension and it worked, but www.Google.com leads to a familiar message reading:

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I don't know what to do. I'm fine with just going to another country's google, but I'd rather find out what's causing this and get rid of it. I'd recently flushed the DNS- I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I'll post the most recent MB log:

Download and install SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition 5.0.0.1128, then update its definition files, then run a quick scan, then select and remove everything it finds. See if that helps.

It works well in conjunction with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.51.2.1300 for combating malware, spyware, rogues, hijackers, etc..

Oh, OK.

You only mentioned Malwarebytes and didn't mention SUPERAntiSpyware, so I assumed you used only the one.

Also do the following to insure any large buildup of temp files is cleaned out:

Click Start - Run, then type in

%temp%

and then click OK.

Click Start - Run, then type in

c:\windows\temp

and then click OK.

Once those 2 temp folders appear and you can view their contents, select and delete EVERYTHING that's inside them.

If a few files resist being deleted, that's normal behavior. Leave them alone and delete EVERYTHING else.

After you're done, restart the computer.

Please click HERE to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do not "Fix" anything

I restarted the comp. Aussie google isn't redirecting, but google.com is still not loading. I'm downloading Hijackthis, brb.

Run HijackThis again,

Click on Open The Misc Tools section.

Click on Open hosts file manager.

Select the two following entries:

95.64.61.141 www.google.com

95.64.61.142 www.bing.com

Click on Delete line(s).


Then, please run another scan with HijackThis and post the log in your next reply.
