Cannot Uninstall Java TM 6 Update 29
I am UNABLE to remove Java TM 6 Update 29 from my laptop. I run Windows XP SP2.
I have tried running javaRA (http://majorgeeks.com/JavaRA_d5982.html), restarted ,but Java TM 6 Update 29 continues to show in my Control panel. When I try to uninstall I get an error message. It is a pop up box titled "Add or Remove Programs". In it is written "Fatal Error suring installation"
I did a "Check for Java on my PC" on www.java.com and it says that Java is not installed on my machine.
Please help me.

re-install java from the java website... if the installation says that you already have it install select yes to "This software has already been installed on you computer. would you like to reinstall it?"

javacpl.exe is missing
ok. I shall do as you say. But I just observed that when I go to Control Panel I see a "Java" icon with a coffee mug on it. When I double click I get the following error message "The system cannot find the specified file. C:\Program Files\java\bin\javacpl.exe

let me know if re installing works... that's interesting... obviously... your java files got damaged somehow... if the re install fails... because it tries to uninstall.. then you will have to remove all of the java files... so that it doesn't detect the damaged version

Even after re-installation no working Java was detected
I did as you advised.
I tried to re-install Java from the java website.

The following 3 pop-ups popped up 3 times without being prompted by me
  1. This software has already been installed on your system. Would you like to install it again. Yes/No ( I selected "yes")
  2. Preparing to remove
  3. Gathering required information
  4. This software has already been installed on your system. Would you like to install it again. Yes/No ( I did not select any response)
  5. Preparing to remove
  6. Gathering required information
  7. This software has already been installed on your system. Would you like to install it again. Yes/No ( I did not select any response)
  8. Preparing to remove
  9. Gathering required information
Then the pop ups just vanished.
I went to http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp and got the following message:
No working Java was detected on your system.
Install Java by clicking the button below.

ok... so what we're going to do is remove the java files... the first step is to open "My Computer" then click on the hard drive running your operating system (default c:/) you may receive a message that says something like"this folder contains sensitive files" if so click "show contents of this folder" then open "Program Files" if you get the same message as above click the "show..." again. Than scroll down until you fine "Java"... delete this folder... try the install again... quit if you get the "the software is already installed" message

The entry in Add/Remove was just left behind. Java had already beem removed. When you most likely uninstalled a different version, since it used the same uninstaller as the version still listed, it uninstalled Java but just left behind an entry.

Remove all the Javas you can from Add/Remove. Do Not delete any files manually since that will create a mess in the registry and make uninstallation impossible.

Then, use MyUninstaller to remove the remaining entries in Add/Remove. That entry will be a false entry and Java will really be gone.

Start fresh and install Java again.

Through Command prompt
Install Java through command prompt so that it can generate necessary log files to troubleshoot the issue.

  5. In the Command Prompt window Type: cd Desktop and hit Enter.
  6. Type: JavaSetup6u24.exe /LV* %TEMP%\jreMSI.log
  7. Follow all the prompts to complete Java installation.
ERROR MESSAGE:

java
try using javaRA to remove old files. use your add/remove program first to delete , restart ,download and run javaRA ,restart ,download the new java 7.1 and install. you should also update to sp3.

Revo Uninstaller 1.75
I went here to download Revo Uninstaller 1.75. After I installed it, I restarted my computer.

Ran the program and let it scan my computer in “advanced mode”. When it finished scanning, I found registry 169 entries for Java are in the list. I do not know which one to choose, highlight and click the "Uninstall" button.

I also do not know how to check only the BOLD entries and not the entire tree that contains the BOLD entries.

Can you help remove Java from Registry

Wow, you've made quite a mess! Never try to remove a program manually. You'll never find everything and won't be able to remove the program anymore.

I think the damage may be too extensive to do anything but you might want to try uninstalling or installing Java in Safe Mode (with Networking to install).

Download SafeMSI to be able to start the Windows Installer service in Safe Mode.

Run SafeMSI while in Safe Mode (with Networking).

Try installing or uninstalling Java.

Java needs to access the Internet in order to install. That's why you need to be in Safe Mode with Networking...
