Windows root system 32 hal. dll is missing
Windows root system 32 hal . dll is missing. And i have to install it again. I've tried many ways to solve this problem, Attrib etc, doesn't work. Then he shows ": acces denied etc. Help? Im now busy with chkdsk /r. Maybe that will work. But do I need to install windows XP again?

When the disk check has completed you might be ok but please post the log as follows:

Go to Start > Run and type: eventvwr.msc /s , and hit Enter.
When Event Viewer opens, click on "Application", then scroll down to "Winlogon" and double-click on it.
This is the log created after running Checkdisk.
Copy and paste it into your next post.

If the disk check has not repaired the problem then a Repair install should, and it will leave all your files and programs intact.

You if have no backups of your important data follow this guide just in case it can't be fixed. Ubuntu Live CD to back up files from your dead Windows

Ooops, sorry about that, my mistake.

What did the Disk Check report?

What Service Pack number is on your installation disc, if it does not match the number on the PC it won't work (unless it is the same or higher), so the alternative is to do a clean install. Just boot from the XP disc and follow the prompts.

If you do need to save any data just use the Ubuntu disc I have already supplied the link for.

NOTE. You could also try the fixes in this guide for the hal problem.
