I have a Dell E171FPb montor for my windows xp equipped dell dimension 2350. Since I have yet to get the internet connection to work, I downloaded the dell monitor driver on another computer and attempted to install it on my dell. Upon following the instructions I noticed that the propertries button under the monitor tab of the advanced button on the display properties is unclickable. that is the only way to install the monitor and fix the resolution which is now on 640x480 pixels and 4 bit color . How do i install the driver?

Monitors don't have drivers. They're plug-and-play.

It sounds to me like you need the graphics driver for that Dell Dimension 2350 desktop.

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties - Hardware - Device Manager, then click the + in Display Adapters. What's the description listed there?

Are there any entries in the Device Manager that have a yellow ? next to them?
