Should I go ahead and remove the programs Flavallee suggested?

What's next I hear you ask - good question.

Let's check the cause of those BlueScreens
They should be logged in c:\windows\minidump

Download BlueScreenView
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
Download link at the bottom of the page.
Download>and post the last 4 minidump from the scan.

Once it has scanned>Edit>Select All>File>Save Selected Item
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad>Copy>Paste Entry.

ok - I checked the minidump file again and it is still empty - we haven't had a blue screen since i had activated that the other day - just freeze ups of the whole system... I'm going to download the bluescreenview software you requested above next and will report back... unless that relies on any minidump files? :-(

Also - I am getting some pop up that shows up sometimes anyhow - but randomly just showed up just now - saying "Outlook Express can compact messages, etc. etc..."... any easy way to get rid of that? ;-)

hmm - ok - i got the bluescreenview open and it appears that yes - it's not finding anything because of the minidump file being empty? :-(

So - what is next?! ;-)

Outlook Express - I have never ever used it, so I will have to pass on that one.

Check Device Manager
Click Start button>run>type
devmgmt.msc

Check for any yellow exclamation marks.
A driver may need updating.

-----------------------------------------

Right click My Computer>Open
Right click - Local disk - should be C:
Click Properties.

Tools>Error checking.
Tick both boxes
Click start.
It will say it cannot scan, do you want it to scan at the next start up..
Click Yes - restart Pc.

It will scan the system at the next start up - let it scan - it will then boot to your desktop.

I have to sign off now - my next move would be a Mem Test and a Hard Drive Test.
I will check back on any progress tomorrow.

Run a Memory test.
http://www.memtest.org/
http://www.memtest86.com/download.html
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Best to run a full scan - on individual Ram sticks.
Download and burn the ISO to CD

Boot from that CD and run the memory test overnight or for at least 8 passes.
Guide to using Memtest86+

Hard drive manufacturers test.

Ok! Thanks Blues_Harp! Have a great night!

I did the driver check and there were no exclamation points. Then I am now restarting so it can do the Error Checking. After that - I'll proceed with the next steps and will report what we find! :-)

Thanks a bunch!

Hi Blues_Harp!

I ran the error check and it rebooted... I didn't notice anything? Maybe it created a log somewhere?

Anyhow - the Memtest - I'm a bit confused on which of those sites I should use (any of them?) and exactly which file it is I need to download to CD and run... when you get back on the forum tomorrow, if you could please point me to which file name to download - I'll get on it!

Thanks and have a great night! )
