No bad sectors on the hard drive.
But made many corrections to the file system.
And was well worth running.

Check Event Viewer again.
Start > Run > Type
eventvwr

Once it has opened.
Click on System
Click the Action Tab - at the top.
Click - Clear All Events.
[Click No - if asked to save the logs]

Then Click on Applications.
And do the same as above - Clear All Events etc.

Restart your Pc and check Event Viewer - under System and Applications.

Hi Again! :-)

I just downloaded the memtest stuff and am going through the instructions and it talks about removing all but 1 stick of RAM at a time, etc...? Does that mean I need to "operate" on the PC? If so - that may be above my pay grade - I don't know how to open it up! ha ha! ;-) If not, I'll just start the PC with the disk in as instructed and let it go...?

No problem - leave all sticks of Ram where they are but if any errors show up - then a removal of individual sticks will be needed.

Ok - here's the thing with Event Viewer.
It can be very useful and it can be misleading - I have just check mine on Xp Pro and there are a few warning etc.

The check disk you ran - has fixed a few of them, as for those above, I'd ignore them.
Many check EV everyday and it can lead to madness.

Run the Mem Test and let us know the result.

So - I am having the hardest time creating this "boot" disk for the memory test... I have followed the instructions verbatim (both from the first download you provided and the one set of instructions from geekstogo (even tried it with their link for the Memtest files) multiple times and I keep getting a disk that is named MT410 or named nothing at all and has files within it - the closest I got was when I downloaded from the geekstogo link - I got the MT410 disk and it has a readme.txt file and a folder labelled "boot" within it are 2 files - "boot.cat" and another that is "Memtest.img".

By following the first link you gave me, I get a disk that is untitled and then has the following on it:
Folder named "ISOLINUX"
File named "SRC_V40A.TGZ"
And a Folder Named "SRC_V40A.Zip"

Neither of these disks created do anything when I reboot the computer... :-(

What do you think? Am I doing something wrong or using the wrong link or something?

Ok - update - I went back to this site - http://www.memtest.org/#downiso and noticed there is a link for this:

Download - Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) *NEW!*

So - I created that USB Key.
Put it in the PC
But it just starts up like normal - straight into windows...

Is there some command it's missing or that we can give it when shutting down to reboot and run this file or just force it to run the file once it's already booted, etc?

For the Cd - the Bios will need to be set to start [boot] from the Cd.
For the USB stick [I have never used that method for mem test] the Bios will need to be set to boot from the USB.

If it is an old Pc - a USB boot option will not be available.

BEAUTIFUL! THANK YOU!!!

I had to hit F12 to get the boot menu - and I adjusted "USB" first, then "CD" and then "Harddrive" - so it's running now - I'm assuming off the USB Memory Stick Drive - I'll report back once we get it run through 8 times or so! )
