Problem Child PC = Frequent "Blue Screen of Death" and PC Freezing Up Dozens x a day

Hi!

We have a Dell Desktop running XP that for about a year now has frequently either crashed with the "Blue Screen of Death" or just locks up and has to be forced restarted... Often it's when MS Office products are being used - such as when something goes to "save" - but not only then.

I'm hoping that you guys can help get the PC running faster and figure out the problem with the freeze ups - otherwise, we're about ready to throw this machine out the window! ha ha!

Post the Minidump files.
Look in c:\windows\minidump
ZIP them and attach them to your next post.

Right-click the minidump file, select Send To.
Then select Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Windows will compress the file and then save the new zipped file in the same location.

We've tried working with this pc again and it just keeps freezing - almost instantaneously - so no blue screen - just a total freeze that we have to force close and restart.... Any suggestions?

Let's get a better picture of what's installed in that computer so we can determine what needs to be uninstalled, updated, replaced, or added.

Start HiJackThis.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

It appears that you have at least 2 antivirus programs installed and running at the same time.

Multiple antivirus programs will fight each other and bog down the computer and make it more susceptible to infection and cause other problems.

I recommend you uninstall AVG9(which is very outdated anyway) and keep Microsoft Security Essentials.

I'm not familiar with Kaseya Security Services, so I don't know what it does.

In addition to the above - start the Pc in Safe Mode, tap F 8 as the Pc is starting up and choose Safe Mode.
In Add-Remove programs - uninstall Avg.
Reboot and see if it will start in Normal Mode and not freeze up.

After you uninstall AVG, download and save and then run

AVG Remover(32bit) 2012

so it can find and remove all the leftover file and registry "debris" from the AVG uninstall.

Here's the HiJackThis uninstall list. After I ran that, I went ahead and uninstalled the AVG9 and have rebooted. I will now restart in SafeMode and do as BlueHarp requests to run AVG Remover and then install the MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware...

The AVG Remover tool can be used in Normal Mode.

I suggested Safe Mode for the first uninstall of Avg but you have already done that.

Concerning your "uninstall_list.txt" log, the following needs to be done, but only AFTER you've resolved your current issues.

There's no rush to do it now.

Adobe Reader 9.5.0 needs to be updated to Adobe Reader 10.1.2

The new version will overwrite and replace the old version, so there's no need to uninstall it first.

Unless you REALLY know how to use CCleaner safely, I advise you to uninstall/remove it.

Improper use of its "Cleaner" and "Registry" functions can wreak havoc with that computer.

Java(TM) 6 Update 21 needs to be updated to Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.31(6 Update 31)

The new version will overwrite and replace the old version, so there's no need to uninstall it first.

Windows Search 4.0 needs to be uninstalled/removed.

It's not needed, and it's a resource hog.

Blues_harp28 - I did have to run the AVG Remover in Safe mode after all - it froze otherwise. I have now rebooted and am going to install the 2 anti-virus you recommended... then will report back!

Also post the logs from both programs.

Download.
MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware to your desktop.
Download the Free versions of both programs.

MalwareBytes

SuperAntiSpyware

Once they are downloaded to your desktop.
Close all open browser windows.

MalwareBytes
Click on the Install icon - allow it to update during the install process.

Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Click on Scanner > then quick scan >then Scan.
Any infections or problems will be highlighted in red.
After the scan is finished - Click - Show Results.
Check that all entries are selected.
Click - Remove Selected.
You may be prompted to restart to finish the removal process.
If Yes - restart your Pc.

Start Malwarebytes again.
Click on the Logs Tab.
Highlight the scan log entry.
Click - Open.
The scan log will appear in Notepad.
Copy and paste it in your next post.

SuperAntiSpyware
Click on the install icon - allow it to update during the install process.
Select the Quick Scan option.
Click Scan your Computer.
Any infections or problems will be highlighted in red.
After the scan is finished.
Click Continue.
Check that everything is listed.
Click Remove Threats.
Click OK - then click Finish
You may be prompted to restart to finish the removal process.
If Yes - restart your Pc.

Start SuperAntiSpyware again.
Click View Scan Logs.
Highlight the scan log entry.
Click - View Selected Log.
The scan log will appear in Notepad.
Copy and paste in your next post.

Edit
You already have SuperAntiSpyware Professional installed!
And Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
Make sure they are updated - before you scan the Pc.
