I recently had a drive failure, and I've done a clean install on the new drive, but it seems to take a long time booting up. I've looked at the start menu, but I don't know what can be turned off, and what needs to be left alone. Here's what I have running at startup:

What can I disable without causing trouble?

Apply > Ok > Reboot your Pc.
The System Configuration Utility box appear on retstart - saying changes have been made.
Tick the box on the lower left and then OK.
Any entry can be re-enabled using msconfig - if it needs to be.

Have you noticed any conflict with the Panda antiphishing program and Avast anti-virus?

Thanks Blues_Harp 28, that seems to speed things up. The hard drive that died was a 7200 rpm, and the replacement is 5400, which I suppose slows things down, It seemed to be a long time loading after I got my desktop up. I haven't noticed a conflict between the Avast and the Panda antiphishing, but I don't really know what I'm looking for. I don't really know how I got the Panda on there, unless it was installed along with something else.

It is a part of Panda Anti-virus - although it can be downloaded separately.
Just be aware that two programs scanning in real-time can cause a conflict, as they may be trying to read the same files and you may not be getting more protection but less.

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties.

Advise what's listed in the Computer: section at the bottom of the "General" tab - exactly as you see it there.

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties - Hardware - Device Manager.

Click the + in IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers

Double-click on Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel

Click the "Advanced Settings" tab.

Make sure the transfer modes are set on DMA if available" and are not set on "PIO only".

If you need to change one or more settings, click Apply - OK afterwards.

Restart the computer if prompted to.

There are two listings for IDE Primary Channel, and two for IDE Secondary Channel. I do have two hard drives installed, is that why there are two listings?

The DMA settings are fine and the processor is running at its rated speed and there's plenty of RAM.

Personally, I would stick with Avast and get rid of Panda and ZoneAlarm, but that's your choice.
