Tried everything and still cannot delete "favorites"
I get the message, the file is in use by somebody else and that of course is impossible. All the suggestions that work for others do not work for me. I have Windows XP, one lousy operating system but I cannot afford better.

Hi rlneva, and welcome to TSG forums.

Please elaborate on just how you are attempting to delete your favorites. Do you want to delete all of them? Have you tried it in Safe Mode?

I do not know how to put my computer in safe mode and then bring it back to regular mode so I guess after 20 years on the computer I am just a beginner!

OK... We can address how to get into safe mode. Reboot your computer and start tapping the F8 key repeatedly. This should take you to a screen where you can select safe mode using the arrow keys.

Before you do that, perhaps you could provide information about how you have attempted to delete your favorites.

How I tried to delete favorites
I did what I have always done, just click on the favorite and I get a whole list of things to do with it, "delete" is but one so I click on it and then I get the message, cannot delete it is in use by another party" which is absurd like I said. I live alone and there is no one using my computer with all the virus protection I have.

Try selecting Organize Favorites from the drop down menu, then deleting whatever favorites you desire in the dialog window that comes up.

BTW... What version of IE are you using?

Not quite sure about what you said. Were the Favs you tried deleting before gone without you doing anything when you went into Safe mode?
