xp hangs at shut down screen
xp hangs on shut down are their any fix for this problem

You don`t give a lot of information about the computer but make sure you have auto updates enabled and does it also hang on shut down from safe mode ?

Thanks for the response when in safe mode it will shut down it is also up to date just hangs on shut down screen and I have to hold the power button till switches off

If it shuts down properly from safe mode, at least the main system is okay so perhaps a more advanced tech guy could jump in here and guide skyjumper through the boot options via msconfig.

Make sure that you install the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service. That can help with a lot of shutdown hangs.

Does it say anything on the screen, like it is safe to shut down, or is it just a plain screen?
