Unhappy Any small windows xp embedded distros/builds to be booted from a usb stick/drive?
Main Idea: Can anyone guide me to a VERY small windows xp embedded distibution (distro) or build, and a guide for -complete- dummies on how to boot it and run/use it directly from a usb stick or drive (just tell me what to do).

I don't need any programs I just need a windows that has nothing but an environment capable of running programs and applications of windows 9x/2k/xp (and a file explorer of course that can run setups), also a plug and play feature/program is recommended so that my usb keyboard and mouse work...

I have windows xp, just tell me what to do EXACTLY and in a simple way, I have no problem using programs, also I guess the usb must become an HDD so windows treats it as a normal drive.

I'm not down for any other os related to vista or 7.

Any help is highly appreciated, thanks.

As a new participant in this forum I would suggest that you read the rules for posting. a (distro) would suggest a cracked version of XP. as per the rules of the forum this would be outside the jurisdiction of help.

You can try BartPE or UBCD4Win, you will need an XP CD to provide the files needed.

If you tell us why you want to do this we might be able to offer more help.

-To Lance1, i didnt mean a hacked distro i meant some kind of version that has minimal number of programs/features, cuz i cant get the >1GB image.
-to managed, i want to boot a very small windows (that doesnt have many system processes eating memory) from a usb so i can run some programs with almost full memory dedicated to them, and please just tell me the steps briefly (no explanation just guide)

also, can windows xp embedded make my usb keyboard and mouse work without drivers? cuz it will be impossible to install them after installing winxpe when there's no mouse or keyboard...

Annonygoose,
Does it have to be Windows?
I think you may find that Ubuntu or a similar Linux distro would be easier to set up - good clear guide here (with screenshots) http://www.howtogeek.com/97177/how-t...hout-the-mess/

You cannot legally or physically run any version of windows from a dvd/cd or USB drive, especially XP
