 Solved: Windows XP Driving me up the wall Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2 OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3, 32 bit Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz, x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 1 Processor Count: 2 RAM: 3071 Mb Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200, 128 Mb Hard Drives: C: Total - 476937 MB, Free - 318069 MB; I: Total - 476929 MB, Free - 438610 MB; Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC., P5GD1 Antivirus: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012, Updated: Yes, On-Demand Scanner: Enabled The last while I have been getting the following error message on almost all the websites I click on. THIS TAB HAS BEEN RECOVERED A problem with this webpage has caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab. Along with this problem I find it very slow opening almost all websites I have the professional version of Super Anti-Spyware installed along with Malware Bytes Anti Malware and am constantly deleting all temporary files to no avail. | Why did you submit this thread in the "Windows Vista" section instead of in the "Windows XP" section? Do the following so we can get a better picture of that computer and if any obvious issues need to be addressed. ----------------------------------------------------------- Go here and click the green "Download latest version" link to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4 After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it. Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files. After it's been installed, start it and allow its main window to load. Uncheck "Do not show this window when I start HiJackThis". Click "Do a system scan and save a log file". When the scan is finished in 30 - 60 seconds, a log file will appear. Save that log file. Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire log file here. ----------------------------------------------------------- Start HiJackThis. Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click on the "Save List" button. Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere. | I wanted to make sure they were BOTH installed because they both appear in the startup list, but only AVG appears in the list of installed programs. Multiple antivirus programs installed and running in the same computer will fight each other and bog it down and cause various issues. -------------------------------------------------- Go to Control Panel - Add Or Remove Programs, then uninstall/remove AVG 2012 Windows Defender Restart the computer to complete the uninstall/removal process, if you're prompted to. --------------------------------------------------- After that's done, download and save AVG Remover(32-bit) 2012 (first one in the list) Close all open windows first, then run the AVG removal tool so it can find and remove the leftover file and registry "debris" of AVG. Restart the computer to complete the removal process, if you're prompted to. --------------------------------------------------- You have a LOT of programs and extras installed in that computer, and a number of them are outdated and a number of them are probably unneeded and unused. Double-click these service entries, one at a time, to open their properties window: Adobe Flash Player Update Service Creative service For CDROM Access Google Update Service Google Update Service Google Software Updater InstallDriver Table Manager Java Quick Starter NVIDIA Display Driver Service Viewpoint Manager Service vToolbarUpdater If "Startup Type" is on Automatic, change it to Manual, then click Apply - OK. If "Startup Type" is already on Manual, close the properties window for that entry. After you're all done, close the services window and then restart the computer. When the small "System Configuration Utility" window appears during restart, ignore its message about the computer being in diagnostic/selective startup mode. Do NOT change it back to normal startup mode!!! Put a checkmark in the lower left of that window BEFORE you click OK to close it. Wait for the computer to completely settle down from the restart. Start HiJackThis, then click "Do a system scan and save a log file". Save the new log that appears, then copy-and-paste the entire log here. ------------------------------------------------------------ |
