Solved: Can't download Service Pack 3
I reformatted and now when I go to MS to get Pack 3 all I can find is the one for the Office/Professional.

Are they no longer allowing downloads for Home?

I have Home edition. I already tried it anyway to no avail. Thanks for responding I hope you or others can figure this out.

The open option wanted to take me to the Internet to chose a program to install it. I've never had to do that with MS downloads so I chose save and put in in my Program Files. When I try to open it I'm once again asked to go to the Internet and find a program that can open it.

I think it needs to be unzipped. Any suggested programs and thoughts as to why its so difficult to install? Thanks in advance.

the link doublehelix gave you is the correct link
the link from hermitt is to an ISO that you have to burn to cd using a special program
Why aren't you usinbg windows update to do the SP3 update. taht way, you will guarantee on getting the correct version & only the files that you need

Did you format and do a clean install of Windows XP Home Edition original version or SP1 or SP2?

If you don't know for sure, right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties, then advise us what's listed in the System: section in the "General" tab - exactly as you see it there.

The link that DoubleHelix provided you with is the full 316 MB SP3 upgrade which you should download and save and then burn to a CD-R so you'll have it available in the future if you need to do another clean install.

The download is for professionals as in people who are professionals. It's not just for Windows XP Professional edition. It's just a link to the full download instead of a file you run which then downloads the update.

I Deleted the previous download of SP 3 from the "Professional" page and will download SP 3 again and we'll see what happens.

at this time, the ONLY way to get SP3 is from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ils.aspx?id=24

it appears that you can no longer get it from Windows update because due to a recent security alert and problem only SP3 versions of XP can get to Windows update not earlier versions
