Solved: cant update windows or microsoft on xp sp3
I try to get updates but everytime it says can not install updates. When I look at update history it on update webpage, shows the attempted updates as being cancelled or failed. Also, can't start my omputer in safe mode. It stops when it hits a "mup"sys. file

Go here and click the green "Download latest version" link to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click it to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and allow its main window to load.

Uncheck "Do not show this window when I start HiJackThis".

Click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in 30 - 60 seconds, a log file will appear.

Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log file here.

Start HiJackThis, then click "Do a system scan only".

After the scan is finished in about 30 - 60 seconds, put a checkmark in these log entries:

After you confirm that you selected the correct log entries, click "Fix Checked - Yes".

Close HiJackThis, then restart the computer.

------------------------------------------------------------

Download and save and then install the free version of

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.62.0.1300

SUPERAntiSpyware 5.5.0.1012

Make sure to update their definition files during the install process.

Make sure to uncheck and decline to install any extras, such as toolbars and homepages, they may offer.

After they're installed and updated, restart the computer.

Run a QUICK scan with each of them.

When each scan is finished, select and remove EVERYTHING they found.

Restart the computer, if prompted to, so the removal process can finish.

Note: DON'T use the computer while each scan is in progress.

xp updates 'failed to install' and cpu usage max out issues
Get a 'failed to install' message when xp updates are needed. Also, am having cpu usage max out on occasion, especially when running videos requiring flash, etc.

I have run both FixCleaner and Advanced System Care scan/repair to improve system performance. This helps until i try to run another video.

Here is my HiJack This log:

Bschulenberg, please start your own thread, this is iamccriders thread. You will be better served, and there will be less confusion.

bschulenberg:

You need to start your own thread because it's too confusing to deal with 2 different computers belonging to 2 different people in the SAME thread.

----------------------------------------------------------

FixCleaner and IObit Advanced SystemCare 5 and other utilities of this nature will wreak havoc with a computer by damaging Windows and breaking programs and generating error/warning messages and causing other problems.

It's my guess that using them is the primary cause of your problems.

Your DNS settings have been changed, which may or not be the cause.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5577

Removing proxy settings

Try updating now.

------

Try resetting Windows Update components.
