Unhappy Solved: Trouble loading XP on New Drive
I just bought a new HD and Windows XP Home Edition will not complete the install. I get the error message 0x0000007B (0xF78E1524,0X0000034. It gets to the point where it says windows is starting and then the blue screen comes up and shuts down to prevent damge. Im stumped. Was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to do to correct this.....Thanks

Is the new hard drive an IDE or SATA model?

Did you boot from the XP CD and see the Press any key to boot from CD command?

Did you delete all current partitions?

Did you create a new C partition and allocate the entire hard drive capacity to it?

Did you format the new C partition in the NTFS file system?

Are you installing XP in C:\WINDOWS?

-----------------------------------------------------

Here is a good install guide to follow.

The Windows XP disc does NOT have native support for SATA hard drives.

Unless you're fortunate to have a hard drive setting in the BIOS that can be changed, you'll need to go through the difficult process of obtaining SATA drivers for that hard drive and then slip-streaming them into the Windows XP disc.

Does that computer have a 1.44 MB floppy disk drive?

------------------------------------------------------

Your specs list that computer as a Dell XPS model.

If it is, what model number is it and what's the 7-character service tag number on the sticker?

If you were able to load Windows XP in a previous SATA drive that you installed, but can't load it in the current SATA hard drive, it's unknown to me what the problem is.

Hopefully, someone else can help you.

According to that service tag number, your computer is a Dell Dimension 9200/XPS 410 desktop.

Here is the driver downloads and support site for it.

Here is the on-line service manual for it.
