Solved: Creating bat file for showing My Computer and My Documents
Hi there.Just a quick question. Do you know of any settings I could put in a .bat file so that I could activate the My Documents and My Computer Icons on the Desktop as these are disabled by default on new installs and would like to show them easily with a batch file rather than messing about going into Display Settings and clicking the checkboxes for them from there.
My knowledge of .bat files is limited, so if you could explain the coding to me as this will help me get to grips with it quicker rather than just throwing some code at me and me copying/pasting and not learning anything!
Also, was not sure whether to put this in XP or DOS as the bat file will be running on XP systems. Mods, please feel free to shift it if needs be!
Thanks
Ben

Save this as EnableDesktopIcons.reg then double click it.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
"{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000
"{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}"=dword:00000000
"{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000
You will need to Refresh the desktop to see the change.

Awesome, thanks for that. Can run that from my bat file easily enough.
