what size is the movie ?
and what size is the picture - you should be able to size the picture to the same size as the movie

often movies are 720 or 1080 size - pixels height

I can't understand your reasoning for using the original version of Windows XP - which is almost 11 years old.

If I remember correctly, one of the service pack upgrades improved on Windows Movie Maker.

If you've been running an un-patched Windows XP system for several years, I can almost guarantee you have a malware problem. Installing any updates without running a full malware scan will likely cause major problems.

I also believe you cannot go from no service pack to SP3.

If the pic is short and wide, WMM might be set to widescreen. I haven't used XP WMM in a while, but there is a tools or options menu that will let you change from 16x9 to 4x3.
