Solved: Computer freezing ( PC Funeral )
I have been here before and with really great results, now the computer is freezing while trying to open web pages, ie like TSG, been watching the hour glass way too long and I can hear what I think might be my hard drive making some occasional noises. Just maybe this PC is heading towards the bright light.
Operating System: Dell Optiplex GX 270 Windows XP, SP3
I have previously submitted HJT, MBAM and added 512MB RAM here is the latest HJT report:

** Please bare in mind, there more than likely will be lengthy delays in any response on my part due to the freezing problem, I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks, Tim

I would use the Dell diagnostics to check your hardware components. It does it in DOS.

Go to Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - "Startup" tab.

Write down ONLY the names in the "Startup Item" column that have a checkmark next to them.

If the "Startup Item" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column.

Submit those names here in a vertical list.

Make sure to spell them EXACTLY as you see them there.

------------------------------------------------------------

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties.

Advise what's listed in the Computer: section at the bottom of the "General" tab - exactly as you see it there.

------------------------------------------------------------

Are you using MagicJack with that computer?

P.S. just a bit of perhaps irrelevant info which may or may not be useful: when the computer stalls/ freezes and I hit stop and then Refresh the page loads sometimes quicker that way. I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem or not but thought perhaps useful.

Yes before i added the new RAM it was freezing and very slow to respond, I was zipping from page to page no problems at all until Fiday and then this problem resurfaced. Answer to the 2nd part of your ? No the other 2 RAMS installed were purchased from MicoCenter and the guy assured me that this would be compatible.

First I would check the Hard drive go to the link below at the top of the page click on Downloads.

Then choose SeaTools for Windows select your Operating system ...download to your desktop...run and install it.

Then do a Basic test on the main Hard drive.

Your computer is recognizing 1.00 GB of RAM, so it's recognizing all 4 - 256 MB modules.

256 MB X 4 = 1.00 GB

------------------------------------------------------

Except for

hpztsb09
msseces
cdloader2

all the other startup entries can be unchecked.

It looks like you've installed PC Tools Startup And Shutdown Monitor or PC Tools Registry Mechanic since your last thread.

Get rid of all that PC Tools-related garbage.
