hello

Have you checked the icon on the right hand bottom corner or screen. ie a picture of a small speaker. If you click on this it should show a window called volume control. On this option microphone settings should be indicated. if you can see a box ticked it may be microphone is muted and all that is needed is unclicking box.

If you cannot see any microphone option at all , then a relevant driver may be missing. go to the manufactures website and seek out the relevant driver. let us know how you get on

"Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices/Voice tab/Voice Recording/Volume" check to see if the volume is on. On the Advanced tab make sure that "microphone Boost" is checked.

Hello again

How long have you had this problem?

Can you track down when it started?

Have you tried system restore, which you can reverse?

What type of pc is it?

from what you are saying it appears that xp was reinstalled onto the hard drive again after a new format?

if this is the case , was the whole system wiped?

if it was, then i can assume drivers were also removed and would advise you find out all the drivers that should be installed for your particular PC , perhaps download them and make sure they have been all installed even doing it a second time?

Right click "My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager" see if there are and yellow "?" or red "X" in the "Sound, video and game controllers" section. Or any section for that matter. If so you have a driver problem. Right click the problem item and select update driver. I wouldn't think a headset would have a special driver, should already be one either on the system or on the XP disk.

The headset is connected to what? The USB port? Or both the headphone and microphone jacks?

I don't understand this statement.

You have a headset, right? How are you connecting it to the computer? Are you connecting it to the USB port? Or are you connecting two separate plugs one to the headset jack and one to the microphone jack? Do you have the cables connected properly and tightly?
