| I'm unexpectedly back on-line tonight and received your private message about your husband's HP Pavilion a1330n desktop. It's definitely had some upgrades done to it and appears to be used for gaming. ---------------------------------------------------- Java doesn't appear to be installed in it. Some programs require it to install and work, and some websites require it to access their multimedia and animation content. Install Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0.07(7 Update 7) Make sure to uncheck or decline to install any extras that it offers. Microsoft Silverlight 5.1.10411.0 is required by some websites for the same reason, so install it. ---------------------------------------------------- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.62.0.1300 needs to be updated to 1.65.0.1400. Start it and then run its update feature so it can update to the latest version and update its definition files. I can't tell which version of SUPERAntiSpyware is installed. If it's not 5.5.0.1016, start it and then run its update feature. ---------------------------------------------------- There appears to be evidence of Symantec Norton and McAfee in that computer, so it needs to be found and removed. Download and save McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool 6.0.151.0 and Norton Removal Tool 20.0.0.21 Close all open windows first, then run each tool. | You guessed it, he is a gamer. Not so much now, profession has definitely been more demanding. Installed what you listed, updated what was not already up to date, and uninstalled McAfee. Casey would like to keep GoBack, is there a way to remove any other Norton items that may exist? |

| If he wants to keep Norton Go-Back, DON'T run the Norton removal tool. Do the following in the order that they're listed. ------------------------------------------------------ Click Start - Run, then type in %temp% (% is the percentage symbol on the number 5 key) and then click OK. Click Start - Run, then type in c:\windows\temp and then click OK. Once those 2 temp folders appear and you can view their contents, select and delete EVERYTHING that's inside them. If a few files resist being deleted, that's normal behavior. Leave them alone and delete EVERYTHING else. If a massive number of files are being deleted, the computer may appear to "hang". Be patient and wait for the deletion process to finish. After it's done, restart the computer. ------------------------------------------------------ Run a quick scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware. After each quick scan is finished, select and remove EVERYTHING that was found. ------------------------------------------------------ Go to Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - "Startup" tab. Write down ONLY the names in the "Startup Item" column that have a checkmark next to them. If the "Startup Item" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column. Expand the services window so you can see the list clearly.
