Hi,
Please supply some basic info about your system:
Computer, Operating System, Browsers(s), etc.
Do you run Spybot, Ad-aware, Virus scans regularly?

This information will help the experts to help you.

With no Start Menu it's assumed you cannot get to your System Restore?

The screensaver or your desktop? XP????? Have you tried Ctrl+Alt+Del? Look to see what program was running? From there you can force the end to the Screensaver.

I am having the same problem! I am running Wondows XP and when I turned the computer on, there was my wallpaper with no desktop icons. I can access the Task Mrg, but it has been of no help. The only way to enter Safe Mode is through msconfig. This brings up a black screen with the words "Safe Mode" in each corner. It seems to do liitle else. When I first turned it on yesterday there was a message about an invalid path being repaired (?). I don't completely recall the message because I didn't think it was important at the time.

RIGHT click the Desktop and choose "Arrange Icons By..." and make sure there is a checkmark by the "Show Desktop Icons".

Unfortunately, right click does nothing.

Can you boot to the Safe Mode? Tap F8 or F5 while the system is posting. (booting)

Try Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up Task Manager. Terminate the Explorer process.

Then go to File, New Task (Run) and type "Explorer" to restart it.

If that doesn't help, repeat the procedure and type: chkdsk /f and restart.

If that doesn't work, repeat the process but type: sfc /scanboot and restart.

If that doesn't help, and you'd like to do a System Restore, open Task Manager as before, and type:

C:\Windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

in that box to start SR (provided your system drive is C: and your system folder is Windows).
