How do you uninstall Microsoft Works?
Hi everyone, I'm trying to uninstall Microsoft Works - trying to free up some space on C: - but can't seem to do it. There is a "Microsoft Works 6.0" and a "Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Microsoft Word" in the Add/Remove Programs in the CP, but the actual "REMOVE" button isn't there!

Is there any way to get rid of this program that I haven't EVER used?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like that program only removes the install/uninstall configuration settings for the Add/Remove Programs list ...

...the utility removes only the Windows Installer configuration information that is related to those programs.
I want to actually remove the program, all of the files associated with it, everything that is Microsoft Works. If I'm misunderstanding the program please just let me know and I apologize

Look in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\Setup folder. Is there an Installer Package (Wk2000). If Yes, double click on it. It will give you the option to uninstall.

There is no setup in the Works folder; the only folder is names "1033".

There IS a setup folder in the "Works Suite 2002" folder, but the only executables are LAUNCHER.EXE and UNREGWTR.EXE; clicking launcher makes a box pop up that says "To run the Works setup program, double click the Setup icon on the Works CD."

No sign of a WK2000 file. Thank you for helping.

The process calls for running Works Setup utility, which in turn will give you an option to unintall the program. If you do not have the Installation CD, or if the Installation files are not in the computer, in your position I would attempt to use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and then remove all Files and folders from the computer.

Please note the the Installer Package could be labeled Wk2000 or, Wk2002, dependng upon the the Works' version. In my case is Wk2000, as it is a copy I reimaged from a Compaq Recovery, and it is version 4.0. In your case could be version 6.0. If the package is not available in the Setup folder, search for it in the C:\Programs Files\Microsoft Works. When the program is bundled as part of a package with a new computer, certain installation files are missing.

How about looking under the START/All Programs/MS WORKS for the uninstall option?

There is no uninstall shortcut in the MS WORKS folder in the Start Menu -> PROGRAMS, if that's what you mean...

Greetings,
Had this on my computer and had to uninstall manually using Search/Find in the registry....it's a long process but I got rid of it.
I'm not sure if this will help but I found a site with free/shareware uninstallers....maybe one of these will do it for you. Have a look.

Best of luck,

What exactly does the button say in Add/Remove Programs? Does it say Change? If so, click on it, and you'll probably get an option to uninstall. Running 3rd party utilities and manually deleting files will leave you with a huge mess.

There is no button on the add/remove programs; I can select the program, but there is no "Change" or "Remove" option, there is no option at all, in fac.t.. ultraclassic, I will try the site you recommended tomorrow and let you know what happens, thanks!
