It may be a video driver problem, or other installed software, such as antivirus programs.

If it is occuring primarily or exclusively online, antivirus or firewall programs may be suspect. Or any type of networking application.

thanks for clearing that up for me. I wasn't sure how it was explained. It's not all the time that it doesn't come up, only sometimes. And your right I don't see how it would be booting up either, strange . I have been getting different blue screens all day, even when I am just booting up the computer. I have checked my hardware on the Windows XP compatibility list and most of what I have is compatible. I haven't been able to find my onboard video, keyboard or hard drive. But I have found models that are similiar or close to my hard drive model listed. I have a Radeon 7500 at the moment, but I am not able to "actually" disable the onboard video from bio's, only the device manager.

Also I just got another 50, and this time it did say "graphics device driver". At one point my sister got a C4 and something about a kernel driver. But I was unable to get the whole message because she restarted before I could get it.

what is compatible on my comp:

Monitor - Samsung SyncMaster 793DF/793MB
Sound Card - VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM)
Motherboard - Biostar M7VKQ
Mouse - Logitech, but I forgot the model
Modem - Agere Win Modem
Printer - Lexmark 1100x series
Network Adapter - Realtek 8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet Adapter NIC, something like that

Also I have been looking for a new cpu and motherboard as we speak, hoping that fixes the problem

here is my hijack log:

there's not much on it since I did the clean install. I have a virus scanner and spyware scanner that I haven't gotten to install yet.

If you have a Radeon 7500 card, it may not be properly installed; moreover you have an S3 video process running

(O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [S3apphk] S3apphk.exe)

How did it get there since you don't even have an S3 chip integrated on the motherboard:

http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdownloads.asp?model=m7vkq

Is there anything for S3 in Add/Remove programs? If so, remove it. If not check and "fix" that entry in HijackThis.

To determine your current installation run dxdiag and select the Display tab. Note the Device name and driver version listed there.

Also verify whether this file is actually present:

Service: Ati HotKey Poller - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe (file missing)

It should be present in "running processes" but isn't.

Ok I cleaned installed again, to do this:

well I took off the radeon 7500 and just reinstalled the onboard video which is VIA Tech VT8361/VT8601 Graphics Controller. Been going on that for 2 or 3 hours with no blue screen. I'd rather use the Radeon one since the onboard is only 8mb and the radeon is 64mb, but not if it's only going to cause problems

This is the video driver I have installed:

VIA VT8361/8601/8501 (Trident Blade 3D) video drivers
6.13.10.3124

the one on that website says:
6.13.10.3114

mine must be more updated than that, lol. Maybe the radeon doesn't like my mobo because that's the only thing I can think of at the moment. I've actually replaced alot of things on here, all retail and most if not all on the compatibilty list. The Radeon is OEM, would that make some sort of difference? Myabe it's conflicting with the onboard one since I can't actually disable it from the board?

here is my hijack log as of doing the clean install and installing drivers for my hardware:

I don't believe the Radeon was ever properly installed or perhaps you failed to disable the onboard adapter when doing so.

Trident is definitely what your motherboard has.

I still don't understand what this is doing in your Scanlog:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [S3apphk] S3apphk.exe

Did that come back after installing Trident, or did you never delete it?

As you can see it is associated with S3 graphics:

I don't know what the S3 thing is doing there. I think it's installing with my onboard video which is VIA, strange . Should I remove it and see what it does? With the onboard video installed, I am still getting blue screens. It also seems to happen while I am running Paintshop Pro 7, so I uninstalled that. I am going to see if I get anything while that is uninstalled and I will get back to you. As far as I know I installed the Radeon correctly, but I can always try again.

You can, and should, run msconfig and uncheck the s3 thing there for test purposes at least.

PaintShop Pro wouldn't produce a blue screen as far as I know -- but it can certainly produce application errors. These could be reviewed either in the Administrative Tools event viewer or the Dr Watson log in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson

If you keep getting blue screens, and the driver error is different, let us know.

thanks, still got blue screens with psp off, so your right. Could it be my hard drive crashing? I have a cd to run diagnostics on it. Should I just check off the s3 thing and start up in selective mode and not normal mode for awhile, is that what you mean? I'll do that later on, got some things to do first.

Run msconfig, select the "startup" tab and UN check the entry for S3apphk.exe

That will place you in "selective startup" mode; you will be prompted about this when you reboot. I suggest you select the option to ignore future prompts.

If you run msconfig and go back to "normal" startup, ALL unchecked items in the startup group will get checked.

haven't been getting many blue screens as much, but I just got a 0x1000007e and I sent an error report and got this useful bit of information from microsoft:

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response...57ea06&SID=571

I got a new power supply a few months ago, and I just wanted to mention the problem was going on way before that. I actually say almost since I've had this CPU and board, which makes me really begin to wonder.

It's beginning sound like an odd issue with the CPU itself, especially since you note some kind of detection issue.

If you were a hardware geek, or I was for that matter, I might recommend removing and reseating the CPU. But this is not something I'd suggest for the uninitiated -- nor would I do it myself, except as a last resort.

Ram modules, on the other hand, are something I can and do recommend reseating when they might be implicated.

It's possible these errors could also be heat related, so you do want to verify that the case is dust free and that the fans work.

Iv tried reseating the ram to no avail. I am in the process of buying a whole new CPU and board, so taking this one out and trying to reseat probably wouldn't do me any good. My fan is moving, unless you mean something totally different by "working", lol. I can go and pick up some compressed air to blow into it, but that is all I know of to do. I did at one point remove the whole motherboard from the tower and clean it off, but that didn't seem to do anything good either. The only thing I haven't tried was anything with the CPU itself. Could be really dirty in there, is all I can think.

got a blue screen today:

stop 00000073
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response...2d5e50d&SID=11

^got that when I tried to boot up the computer, actually when XP tried to boot up.

Ckyfan, you need to create a separate thread for your problem.

angelique01 we keep seeing the Display adapter or graphics driver mentioned. I hate to go round in circles on this, but you are now using the integrated motherboard based chip right? Have you physically removed the Radeon card as well as uninstalled its drivers?

yeah I know it's driving me insane. No problem about the circles thing. It's always good to come back to things you think it could be. I am now using the integrated motherboard chip. Driver is removed for the Radeon. Radeon is not in at all. I'm also still getting random blue screens, different ones, 0x0000007f is one, mentioning a device driver. I also noticed with this happens, something messes up in my temporary internet files folder. It happens with the 50 one as well.

Also figured out there is no way it's a heating problem. I got blue screens running on 35C degrees. The comp only get's warm when the humidy is up outside. My room get's pretty hot in the summer. I can't move the comp downstairs because there's no room.

And for the sake of it again here is a list of all that is hooked to the comp right now:

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ <- the reason I am getting a new one, lol
Biostar M7VKQ motherboard
Agere 56k Win Modem
Lite-On DVDRW
Seagate Baracuda 80gb hard drive
Samsung Syncmaster 793DF/793MB monitor
VIA Tech VT8361/VT8601 Graphics Controller
VIA AC'97 Audio
WAN Network Driver (disabled)
Logitech Mouse
Micro wireless keyboard
Lexmark 1100 series printer/scanner/copier

Have you removed or disabled this from your startup configuration?
