load needed DLLs for kernel - help please
I am getting the above message when I boot up my pc - it started as follows:

I left pc running only to return to black screen with white writing apologising for inconvienience but windows had shut down and it gave me the option of starting in safe mode, something else? last known working configuration or starting windows normally - I cchose normally

then got error message " windows could not start because of an error in the sofware. Please report this problam as: load needed DLLs for kernal. Please contact your support person to report htis problem"

I did a search and found that this relates to missing DLLs which should be fixed with a reinstall of XP

My pc came with a restore disc - I used this and it allowed me to restore but said it would lose all data on the drive - I have some important stuff on there so decided not to do this.

I bought a new hard drive and installed this and installed XP onto this - but this is also giving me the same error message???

I have performed a repair install of xp which proceeds fine until it reboots the system and it then just starts the recovery process again. If I remove the recovery cd and restart it I just get the same error message.

Could there be some other reason such as a problem with a piece of hard ware.

Please could somebody help me, Thanks

Bump
While you wait for the expert input, you may want to in the meantime backup the important data to cd's/whatever.

Hi

I have removed the hdd that has all info on it I want to keep - will back this up once I can get system working and can connect it as slave.

Problem is I have installed a new drive and a new installation of XP and still get same error message - reinstalling or repairing windows makes no difference

There is some indication from searches that the problem has occurred after memory upgrades. Try reseating, substituting, or (if possible) eliminating, one memory module at a time.

You may also want to physically remove any external drives other than the one you want to boot -- and ensure it is the master on its IDE.

You may also want to reset the BIOS defaults, ensuring that the CPU is not overclocked.

Hi Rollin - thanks for ideas - I have tried putting new memory in - no change

I have disconnected everything except the master hdd and the graphics card

And have reset the BIOS

Machine has never been overclocked

Could it be the motherboard? The IDE controller maybe - if so could this have damaged the hdd?

Might but a new MoBo tomorrow and try

There's not much left but that -- and possibly a bad cable.

Do you see any swollen or leaking capicitors on the motherboard?

As for the hard drive, you've tried an entirely clean install on a new hard drive, right?

Just out of curiousity, I wonder what would happen if you tried a FAT32 file system install instead of NTFS?

The road is getting clear
Assume you have had a clean installation of XP. and you haven't change the BIOS.
The rest existing matter is the Hardwares, Is any new install HW before the problem? and if the room temp is high and dusts also shorten the life of the HW.

Ther were no changes to the pc, either software,BIOS or hardware for several months prior to the fault.

Also reset CMOS using jumper.
No signs of leaking capacitors that I can see

Will go for MoBo I think

Hold da' phone. Wait on the mobo.

Are you restoring or installing from a "recovery CD" and not a Microsoft retail CD?

If so, there is a problem with the CD relating to the motherboard -- which likely is supposed to carry a "tattoo". Meaning the CD is looking ONLY to be installed on a motherboard it can recognize as beloning to the Vendor.

You will NOT be able to install from it on another motherboard.

Contact the system vendor -- they can re-tattoo the motherboard or replace it for you.

Yeah, me 2 :(
Hi!

I have read trough this thread, since I have experienced the same error - as it seems under the very same conditions as you becks1... I have also done as all replying advisors suggest, but with no success ... I made a second disk fresh OS installation (and switching master and slave hd), and no change was reached... As far as I know of no BIOS settings have been changed lately, but now I have resetted CMOS and I have also updated the BIOS Flash ROM... Still no success, though ... No signs of leaking capacitors that I can see, neither on motheboard nor the power supply...

I may add that this error message sometimes changes to some complaints about not finding the system directory... Some other times the screen turns all black (no text) after it has shown the BIOS settings. Important notice: After some 5-10 cold starts with black screen messages, Windows finally fires up! And once Windows isup, rebooting is no problem. But as I turn off the system power, the next time I try to start the system will not get up...

Have you tried changing the CMOS battery? And I suppose it could also be a power supply problem.

I doubt it's hardware related other than your HD. I received the same message with a laptop that I have. I simply tried to swap HD's and received the same message again. When I tried teh Windows Repair with the CD some of the commands would not work because of what seemed like the HD freezing up. Hope someone finds out what is wrong. This ones a lou lou.

Don't know if this will work. I believe when I tryed to re-install windoze it said my hard drive may be damaged.

GOOD LUCK
