Thumbs up Thanks
Like many others here I have to say thank you. Hours and Days have been wasted on this problem (as trivial as it is). The desktopcleanup was the only thing that fixed my problem. Me and my now happy desktop say Thanks again.

i've downloaded dektopclean.exe from the http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/cleandesktop.exe link but does not do the whole closing of the explorer and desktop clearing. my old wallpaper is still applied and my tabs on the display properties are gray and cannot choose a wallpaper. i wonder what is wrong with the computer or is something blocking it from doing it. any suggestions? thanks

No Luck on desktop image restore
I tried method #2 and get; loading your settings (access denied)
I can change the color of the background but cannot get a image file to load. I have run restore, but no help. I have run a registry fixer, nope.
What happened, I was cleaning out some shareware\freeware and deleting some files with registry problems. It only effects my profile so it has to be a setting
HALP!

Great Advice ABOVE #6
Yeah, Thanx #6...
I downloaded and installed 'cleandesktop.exe' without problems on WIN XP SERv. PAK 2 with 512 RAM on 1.7 MGZ Laptop.

I scanned file-> no virus Found "i have updates virus definitions". When running the file, norton cam up with a "malicious script" as it always does. I trusted you, and ran it... and it fixed my desk top in a snap. I had tried changing the registry keys in 2 locations where ya [make sure the key '../../Policies/ActiveDesktop/ChangeDesktopWallPaper was there and was set to-> 0]. Well that method didn't work. Hmmm, I just checked my regitery again, and both of those regestry keys are GONE now-> in [localmachine../../../] and [currentuser../../../]. Well, I am not gonna complain.

I registered for this Site just to say thanx alot, and also {being I am posting years after #6's advice was given} I want to tell anymore people comming here with the same problem to give it a try.

*Note: I once got slammed with malicious scripting while visiting a pirate website having pirated software. I use to dabble alot when I was younger. It locked me outta everything-> I'm talkin 'regedit, right click, screwed up desktop' and said it installed a program to fix it, but I had buy the program with my credit card! Ouch!!! Well, I havn't visited sites like that in over 2 years now because of that. This new one slammed me, the same way-> but didn't turn off regedit, and wasn't as bad "well not that i notice?" my typing becomes delayed in screen output at times,.. weird. Well anyway-> This time I wasn't on any bad sites at all! I was just surfin doin some research for my BIZ! Sad-> so sad that people do stuff like that! They should hunt them down and k@$!$%... hmmm i shouldn't say that.

Ok,... thanx to the good guys and this good board
peace

Thanks
i also wanted to extend my gratitude in fixing my desktop problem. I found malicious software and then only noticed this morning that i could not change my wallpaper. I had no idea what had happened. Went searching on the net but my searches kept getting hijacked. This leads me to believe that there is still malicious software on my computer.

I'm having the same problem and before I do the suggested solution I was just wondering if doing this would mess up any other programs like games, applications, or even the arrangement of icons on the desktop. Just would like to know before I do this . Thanks for the help!
