Okay so it's finally installed. Now how do I retrieve the files I copied?

I'm not sure what you are asking at this point. If the reinstallation of Windows succeeded, you should be able to boot to the desktop and have full access to the drive.

Unless it was a clean install -- you will still have your old data and programs, but will have to reinstall Windows Updates (go for the latest Service Pack).

Hey thanks for all your help. The operating system is up and running, I know how to retrieve my pics, I installed the service pack... I tried to connect to the internet called my ISP long story short, I have to reinstall the driver and utility cd. But when I put it in the drive, it doesn't run automatically. So I go to my computer, double click on it there but it doesn't run.

Is the file you are "clicking" on an EXE?

Try copying the contents of the CD directory to the hard drive and run the setup file from there directly. Make sure it is the setup file you are running.

I tried to copy the cd to the hardrive and got an error copy in file or folder message, "cannot copy ltmdmnt.exe. Cannot read from source file or disk."

Also when I looked in system -hardware-device manager there was a yellow question mark/exclamation point beside ethernet. Under network connections there is only my wireless router and no LAN connection which my ISP tells me why I can't connect. To fix the ethernet connection, do I manually go in and install the driver specific for my network adapter? If so I have no clue what mine is....

Sounds like the disk itself is bad.

I would go to the system vendor's site for your computer model and download the drivers you need on your working computer. Transfer them to a thumb drive and then from the thumb drive to the problem computer and install from there.

Your Network Adapters will be identified in the Device Manager. Unless you have installed something yourself, they should be those for which drivers are available on the specfic driver support page for your model.
