explorer.exe Running Slow (not Internet Explorer)
I honestly have no idea how this came up, it just started happening last month or so. When viewing folders larger than even just a few MB, it can takes minutes to load and even take forever to select an item and scroll through the folder. Does anyone have any experience with this problem, help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have full virus and spyware protection if you have run a full scan . If not get AVG free or avast for AV and adaware se and spybot s and d on your machine and do full scans.
then post back. Hope this helps

Do these folders contain image files with thumbnail caching enabled (either "windows" or associated with a 3rd party image editor)?

If you transfer the files to a newly created folder, does the same problem occur in the new folder?

Pretty much all of the folders I've had problems with have images. But some folders are nothing but tons of images and work fine.

Test this on one of the folders giving you a problem.

First go to Folder Options > View and check "show hidden files"; then for the test period, UNcheck "hide protected system files".

Also check for this test, "do not cache thumbnails"

Now go to one of these folders and look for a "thumbs.db" file and either delete it or rename it thumbs.bak

If you are using a 3rd party image program that has a thumbnail cache you will need to disable its thumbnail caching.

For example if you have Photoshop:

1. right-click on file
2. properties
3. photoshop image tab
4. uncheck generate thumbnails

Well, it fixed it for the 1 folder I think, but would I have to do this for every single folder I have a problem in?

Yes, if the cache is corrupt you should delete thumbs.db for each folder having the problem.

If you want to use thumbnail caching, go ahead, it will recreate a new thumbs.db file. But the larger these folders, I suspect the more likely the cache file is going to become corrupt at some point.
