If you are going to make a slipstreamed install disk you better believe that the key code makes a difference. What happens when you go to use it and your key code does not work. I think a good name for it is, HOSED.

This is something that has to be done the correct way and the only way to do this is to use the same install cd as was used for the installation in the first place. Any other software is asking for trouble.

If the files contained in the %Systemroot%\ServicePackFiles directory are deleted, they can be re-created by reinstalling the Service Pack.

This is weird - SP2 is not even listed in "Add Remove Programs" and C:\Windows\ServicePackfiles is not listed under Explore

But under My Computer Properties it clearly says Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2

Should I try and reinstall it again - what would happen ?

Thanks

In add/remove programs there is a little box at the top of the windows for show updates

Put a check mark in there and wait then look for SP2

If you want to reinstall it here is the link to download it:

Download Windows XP Service Pack 2 full installation
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Do not worry about the network thing since you are on the worlds largest network anyways, The WWW

Ah yes, didnt tick the box

However - SP2 is NOT there - weird

I am going to reinstall it again to see what happens....

Maybe it will fix all the problems ?

The only place I can find anything about SP2 is under My Computer Properties ?

OK - latest results are :

Reinstalled SP2

sfc - It asked me for the XP Home Edition - NOT the service pack 2 cd - after I went to all that trouble of slipstreaming sp2 with xp !!

Result = still the clock goes 30x normal speed and touchpad does not work....

BUT THEY DO WORK IN SAFE MODE

Ahhhhh

Well, if you want a painless method of creating the slipstreamed disk, use AutoStreamer. The slipstreamed disk will be made correctly, so at least you can get by that hurdle.

Yep, no problem

I created the slipstreamed disk ok, but it made no difference - see above.

Just wondered if removing the System clock in device manager and restarting would reload the drivers ?

Clinging at straws here

Thanks

Look for the servicepack files in c:\windows\servicepackfiles\I386 and see what it can get from there.

Perhaps this is a silly question, but when Windows asks for the CD, are you clicking on the "Retry" button? It's asking for the CD because your DLL cache is missing good copies of system files to restore.

Every time sfc runs across another file that needs to be replaced in the DLL cache, it asks for the CD again. If you have several missing (or corrupt) system files that are also missing from the DLL cache, you can get asked for the CD several times.

sfc is a system maintenance tool, not a polished application.

I believe that the SFC problem is solved and leachim is referring to this thread:http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...lock-runs.html

Is that correct?

Can't help you on that Microsoft article. Sounds like they are talking to software developers. What program?

Yep, you are right moper - I went through the sfc ok after making some tweaks to 2 inf files in Windows.

I still have the same probs though - Clock runs 30x too fast and touchpad does not work - usb also dodgy. Mesh Laptop with xp home.

HOWEVER - IT ALL WORKS FINE IN SAFE MODE

Any Takers....?
