Solved: Broken Link Halloween Mystery....wooooo
Hi. xp/sp2/pent4/2.2ghz. Everything checked and virus free. Problem; Links to websites from most of my installed programs don't function at all, ie-
1] Going to an installed program's help section/ then clicking on its homepage link does nothing at all.
2]Going to my start /Programs/program website link connection [IE] icon- does nothing at all in 90% of cases.
3]In yahoo messenger clicking on a link to a 'profile page of a friend; or to a 'games area' link does nothing at all.
my links function perfectly while using a browser. So I suspect its a system irregularity that I need to alter. Here's a typical error message I get after failing to use a link by clicking on a program's homepage 'IE' icon via start/programs menu;

Quote:
This file doesn't have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel.
So I go to control panel/ then folder options - if that is where I'm meant to go. But don't know what to do next.

Thanks in advance. ps- this has been going on for many months now.

ok I figured it out. Nothing to do with pop-ups. It was indeed file association related not broken links that needed a fix. I simply had to make Internet Explorer my default browser rather than Firefox which I had set as my default browser.
