Please HELP!!!!!, My cursor moves on its own to top right and bottom left...
I really don't know if this is a virus or not, but It's driving me NUTS!!!! My cursor starts to drift to the top right and stays there. I have to use the mini joystick in the middle of the keyboard in conjunction with the touchpad to be able to click on anything. Then, the cursor goes right back to the top right. Then, all of the sudden, it drifts across everything and sits on the bottom left, same deal with movement. I have ran a scan with Norton Client Security, and Spy Sweeper and do not have anything there. I am currently running panda activescan to see if anything shows up with it. I am about to run hijack this to post my results. I am new to this post and I have a good knowledge of computers, but this is killing me!!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop, 1.6 ghz P4, 768 mb RAM, windows XP home with SP2.

Any ideas? Thank you all so much for your attention...

1. Does it happen in safe mode?

2. How old is your laptop? My IBM sometimes has the problem, after I have used the eraser toggle. Try to avoid resting your hands on the area of the laptop the the left & right of the touch area. That resolves my laptop problem.

3. Do you have a mouse? If so, in normal mode, connect it to your laptop. What happens?

4. When did the problem begin?

Sincerely,
RF123

Answers to questions....
Thank you for your reply.

I have never tried in safe mode.
The laptop will be 5 years old this June.
I have connected a mouse in normal mode and the same thing happens. If I move it quickly, I will see the cursor and then it goes right back.
The problem began probably about a month ago.

I will try safemode after Activescan stops running.

Thanks again..

You may need to click on the red & white triangle at the right of the post #, such as #6, and ask the moderator to bring this to the attention of a qualified person.

The forum has strict rules about allowing only qualified people to comment on malware issues.

Sincerely,

I very much doubt this is malware related and it's more likely a conflict with the mouse drivers

I will move you to XP where you should get more suggestions

I would go to device manager

uninstall all mouse related hardware

reboot & let windows discover the mouse on reboot & install it's standard drivers

I agree with the above, either driver conflict or a hardware issue (probably with the touchpad though possibly with the G-spot controller)

The touchpad and controller should be able to be deactivated, which may eliminate that as a cause.

How to disable?
I know how to remove the software and drivers, but how would you disable either the touchpad or the mini joystick?

Thanks to all for your help..

Anyone?
Can anyone help with this or encountered a similar problem?

I have run scans in safe mode, nothing shows up. I have cleaned the touchpad all around the edges especially, and the contacts for the mini joystick. My cursor still drifts to the far upper right and lower left corners all by itself.

Please give me any advice you can.

Thanks to all.

In the Control Panel, select Mouse and the Pointer Options tab. Uncheck “Enhance pointer precision” and the problem may go away. (It did for me.)
