I have Windows XP Pro, SP2.

How can you lock your desktop icons in place so that when you turn off your computer and then reboot, the icons are in the same place? It seems like the icon's position was maintained before. I just reinstalled Windows and now the icon's position isn't maintained. Can someone please tell how I can lock these icons in place?

Right click on the Desktop and select Arrange Icons By> and select what you want. The only item I have checked is Show Desktop Icons. I just place my icons were I want them.

Go to: http://www.nthelp.com/50/save_desktop_layout.htm and down load Layout. Place Layout.dll in C:\Windows\System (or System32 if using WindowsXP), and then click on Layout.reg. From now on, whenever you right-click on the "Recycle Bin" or "My Computer" icons, you can see a new option: "Save [or Restore]
Desktop Icon Layout".

I use Icon Restore which is a free download from www.Download.com. Right clicking on "My Computer" icon lets you save your setup or restore after something happens to mess them up.

The location of icons on the desktop should stay the same after a restart or a shutdown. If yours aren't, I suspect you have other problems.
