Powers up, no monitor signal, tried many things, this is very puzzling
Hi everyone,

My setup is :

Intel 820D
Intel 945GNT
ATI Radeon 9550 (Pci-E)
1 GB ram
160 HD

I was reinstalling windows xp pro on my computer yesterday. I formatted drive C, the files copied and then the system began to reboot. Upon reboot the system seemed to boot up ok but there was no monitor signal(the monitor is good). Upon various diagnostics (removing other portions of hardware, reseting cmos, trying new ram, removing motherboard battery, etc.) i decided to get another motherboard. I went to the local comp. store and got a new Intel 945GNT. The board was successfully installed earlier today and upon restarting the system the monitor returned to action and i attempted to reload windows from the cd. The cd loaded and the computer restarted, yet again the monitor will not come on under any condition after this restart. I've tried unplugging all devices and simply having the motherboard, cpu, onboard video, ram, and powersupply, all to no avail. Any ideas in the least? This problem occurs regardless of whether i'm using the onboard monitor output or inserting my pci-express card and using it. Also, there are no beeps to indicate any type of issues upon startup. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I would gladly paypal 20 bucks to anyone with a successful solution to my problem. Thank you so much. -Kevin

Welcome to TCG.

Did you try a different Video Card on the new motherboard? Or is there onboard video on that particular model of board?

EDIT: I'm almost positive that this model has onboard video. Make sure you try the video onboard first. If that doesn't work, move to a video card.

Hi, I have tried the onboard video as well as multiple video cards. I believe my XP pro disc is creating a hardware failure. Some people i've spoken with say this is possible, some say it is not. I'm going to buy a new motherboard i believe and try installing with a new disc and hopefully that will work. Any other suggestions are appreciated, thanks for the reply.

Welcome to TSG....

If you bought a new motherboard and both of the video outputs failed to give you a proper screen of any kind then I would check the monitors cable for broken or bent pins in the D Connectors on either one end or both ends. A way to try this is to put on another monitor on the system to see if that one works.

Yeah, try another monitor. I don't think that your hardware is failing as much as there might be a compatibility issue. But even if that was true, your onboard stuff still would work. If I were you, I'd hold off a little bit on getting another motherboard, because that would be the second one you would have gotten, yeah?

And how many non-onboard video cards have you tried? Also, list everything that you have (on the new board) that was the same from the old board. And while your at it, make sure the little jumpers on your board are all the way down, because my friend had an intresting problem with that in the past.

EDIT: Also, was your old motherboard the same type as the new one you got?
