Cannot copy <file name> Access is Denied
Windows XP Home SP2 with all the latest Windows updates

My computer would no longer boot, so I purchased a new HD and reloaded windows and all the other stuff.

The new HD came with a utility that would copy files from the old HD to the new HD so I copied all the old HD files to a different partition of the new drive (G Drive).

I now attempting to copy or move files from the copied old HD to the new HD (different partition C Drive) and I’m receiving the error message “Cannot copy Access is Denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and the file is not currently in use”

Using Word or Excel, I can open some of the copied files if they are NOT in the Documents and Settings directory. But if I attempt to open the files that are in the Documents and Settings directory, the error message is Cannot Access Read-Only Document.

As a test, in the Documents and Settings directory with all the old HD files, I created a new file, edited the file, renamed the file, moved the file and deleted the file without any problems. I have rebooted in the Safe Mode and I’m still unable to copy or move the files.

Any thoughts what may be going one here that is preventing me from copying these files?

Thanks
Bennie
