I have done some reading and it looks like this is a sort-of common problem some folks have had... Well sorry to bother but I am in the same boat and it is sinking. Based on my reading I downloaded and ran a HijackThis scan and the results are below. Any assistance will be appreaciated! Have you tried disabling the Search Indexer?

That's essentially what cidaemon.exe is. And yes it can cause a similar problem.

You can turn off the indexer two ways -- I've done both:

1 > open Search, select the "Indexing" arrow and set it to "do not turn on"

2 > run services.msc and double click the "indexing service", set it to disabled and reboot.

OMG!

These guys are good...scary good. I am not sure how you knew to do that but I am glad you did. It seems to be working. Instantly after I turned off the indexer in search the CPU usage dropped to low levels and seems to be staying there. I will keep an eye on it.

I can't help but ask what caused this to go hairy and are there any negitive effects for turing this service off?

It happens, probably, when there is some damage to search index archive. There is a way to delete it, but it is a bit geeky -- here is a thread involving one person who did it:

Personally I would just leave it turned off -- it causes more problems and is not all that helpful
