what is dotnetfx3 and other MS updates
why would I need it, MSupdate wants to install it, and the security updates alone says, it will need 6 hours to download. I can't see why I have to block my phone so many times for so long, Does Microsoft think everyone in the world has cable or highspeed?
If I don't seem to have any problems, is there really a need to update?
And can I delete all those $NTUninstallK.... things inthe Windows directory? Soon I have no room for my stuff and this is a new laptop.
Is Vista any better and is it worth upgrading? (I just bought laptop 1 month before Vista appeared on all new computers)
Any expert or experience described would be appreciated

dotnetfx3 is .Net Framework 3.0 and if you don't have any applications that need it, you don't need to install it. It's still a good idea to install security updates. How many updates are we talking about here because 6 hours seems like a long time. Service pack 2 is the only one that might take that long.

Yes, you can delete 'all those $NTUninstallK.... things' as long as your not having a problem with any of the updates. I'm going to hold off upgrading to Vista until the dust settles. Vista might not have many updates now, but as security holes are found there will be many updates down the line.

As posted above if you don't need, it don't download it. If you find out later you do, it can be downloaded at any time from Microsoft's website.

thanks, since I don't know what Netframework does and no program ever asked for it, I will not install it for now.
I have updated my computer often, but it always takes a long time, now I haven't updated for a few weeks and it did say 6 hours to "download", and that's because I have to use dial-up. For me it always takes forever to download anything. Unfortunatelly that is the only way where I live. That's why I am wondering why or what securities are necessary to download. Why can't Microsoft fix the problems once and for all.
I don't understand all this, Spybot and AVG seems to say, my computer is fine.
I am worried about Vista too, won't upgrade for a long time. I had XP on several computers since 2000 and the fixes are still coming. What a product.
My suggestion to Microsoft is, to separate the operating system, one for simple computer users, without the bloat, one for companies, one for heavy game users. I know Windows now can do a lot of things compared to Windows 3, 95 and 98, but now it is just too big. Maybe someone here knows people at Microsoft and talk to them.

I would install all of the updates that Microsoft calls 'Security Updates', other ones are optional. You can go to the Microsoft Update site, click on 'Custom' and pick a few at a time so they don't take so long to download. Install a few every day and pretty so you'll be up to date.
