XP Start Up problems
Hi all
I am unable to start up my PC at the moment...
When I switch on, I get the screen that says that Windows has not started successfully. I then get the options to start in safe mode (x 3); last known cofiguration and start windows normally.
I've tried all options and still keep getting this screen again.
I've also done chkdsk /r which has repaired some errors, but still no joy!

Am also unable to get into Safe Mode.
Have tried repair install from CD. It goes through to 100% and then I get the following message on a blue screen:

Windows has shut down etc...
REGISTRY ERROR

STOP: 0x00000051 (0x00000004,0x00000001,0xE1038c68,ox006DF130)
After rebooting from this I then got the message that system32/drivers/ntfs.sys was missing or corrupt. Have tried chkdsk /r again but still no luck!!
Now when I try to start the machine up, I get the boot screen and then it just goes blank, unless I boot up from the CD. I'm getting really confused now!
It's not my day I think...
Any suggestions most welcome

Thanks for the advice folks. I'm away from home at the moment so will try these out later in the week and let you know how I get on.
Thanks

Hi Anton Wan
Have tried your suggestions. Microsoft support one did not work.
The short media instructions - have done everything. All seemed to go well... until... when rebooting, I get to the screen that says select operating system to start.
The one I entered (as per the instructions on Short Media) is there, plus (I assume) the original installation. So I have two options - At this point I am unable to use my up/down arrows or the enter key to select the OS to start. When I press any key the PC freezes. Even if I let the clock count down to zero so it automatically selects the highlighted item, it just freezes when it gets to zero.
I'm using a PS2 keyboard, not a USB one.
Any more suggestions on how to get the keyboard to work now to select the OS system to start??
Thanks
CheekyBoy

Did you try restoring an older copy of the registry? Can you get to Recovery Console for chkdsk?

Am currently running the Seagate Diagnostic tool for my HDD - Seatools for DOS. (Someone suggested it might be a hard disk problem, rather than a Windows problem.)

Any other thoughts on what is stopping my keyboard from working when I reboot?
