? about changing the file view, details, name, number of pixels.
Is there a setting in XP home and pro where you can set the number of pixels in the name from 180, which appears to be standard, to about 300 -----and have it reset all the files in folders set to open in "details" ---but do it all at once (registry or somewhere else), so I won't have to change this setting for each folder set to open the files with "details". I've got all this space out in the right 1/3 of the window and I would just like to set all the folder options which are to open with the "details view" to open with the file name at about 300 pixels instead of 180 pixels, so I won't have to reset each one manually. (too many!) thx

Close all programs to the desktop
Right Click desktop in a blank area and not on any icons
Left Click on Properties
Left Click on Settings
Left Click on the Advanced tab on lower right corner of window
Next Window under General Tab there should be a setting box for DPI = Dots Per Inch set to what you want then press Apply and then OJ and exit out and reboot if necessary.

ozrom1e, I think you misunderstood what I want (but I'm not for sure). I just picked a random folder which happened to be an opera folder).

You just want to change the DPI for the graphic used in the icon, is that correct?

Get one set the way you want it and then Tools>Folder options>view tab and click apply to all folders.

sorry, I posted an imageshack jpeg of what I wanted. It showed up when I first opened the thread after posting my last reply, but it didn't open up the 2nd time and I don't know if the jpeg is still viewable. Perhaps imageshack went down or my it's my sw firewall or noscript. Both have been acting up today. Here is the direct link to the jpeg of what I want. http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/1...shot003mm4.jpg

The change should be global.

Ok, thx. I just thought there might be a global registry setting to automatically change the pixel width of the file/folder name and have it apply only to all folder contents set to open with details and not mess with my other folder settings.

I understand. You don't want all folders changed. I'll poke around in there and see if I can find a way to do that.
