CD/DVD drives no longer there (???)
hey guys,

when I open explorer there's no more CD or DVD drives shown anymore (and I've got one CD burner and one DVD ROM internally and one DVD Burner externally). This means I can't watch any more DVDs on my PC or burn any more discs. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLP!!!!

thanks in advance!!!

PS: WIN XP Home

Try this first

Download CDgone to your desktop.

Right click and choose Extract All,
open folder and double click on cdgone.reg

Do Not Click on EditReg.reg

Restart your PC

If bonk's fix doesn't work you may need to delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the registry.
Back up your registry first.

Click Start> Run.
Type: regedit and hit OK.
Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Then go to System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/

Click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the right hand side of the window, click UpperFilters.
Right click and select delete.
On the right hand side of the window, click LowerFilters
Right click and select delete.
Close the Registry then
Restart the computer.

FYI, CDGONE does the same thing in a registry script, so there's no real reason to have to do this manually.

Thanks John, I wasn't aware of what that program did.

It's just a .REG file with the commands to kill the filters.
