Safe Mode Help
Today I got a virus of some sort and it could not be removed. I went into MSCONFIG and checked the /safeboot box and the minimal circle under the BOOT.ini tab. When I restarted I could not log on. You should know I am a college student and have a school issued IBM Lenovo T60 and I was told I should have chosen the networking circle. I have tried pressing F8 upon restart but the options to start windows normally does not come up, my computer just restarts in minimal safe mode and I still cannot log on.

I cannot use the Windows version of rescue and recovery because I cannot log on to my computer, because I have an IBM I can access the ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery before Windows boots.

Any suggestions are welcome. And if you're wondering why I don't bring my computer to my school and have them fix it, well I live 3 hours away and that would be a bit of a hassle.

Have you tried loging on as administrator in safe mode?

I think the issue with Safe Mode with Networking should only be a factor if you're logging on to a domain. Are you?

Safe mode is a minimal mode, nearly no drivers are loaded. Your networking will probably not work in safe mode.

Networking will only work in safe mode if Safe Mode with Networking Support is selected.

I cannot log on as an admin because I don't have admin capabilities and I don't know the username/password.

When I log on normally my username is ""lastname_firstname@bentley.edu" but I am not on campus.

Also, the virus I got was one that downloaded other programs from the internet and ran them without my authorization, so I figured if I logged on without networking virus scan would definitely find the virus and delete it.

I hate to do this but since this is a laptop = IBM-Lenovo Thinkpad T60 and you do not know the username/password to get into what you have to the only way to get around this would be to call IBM and have them take you thru getting into the unit. This is a security matter that can not be handled here at TSG basically because this is a laptop for one thing and we have no way of verifying that you are the actual owner of the computer.
